The North Texas Sample Log Service, established 1946 by R.T. Drake in Wichita Falls, has published over 2300 geologist generated logs, and over 2500 drillers logs from the Bess Mason files. These tests are for the most part from Railroad District 9 as well as many other counties of Texas and other states. M.D. and Mary Allison bought the service in 1985 and continue to operate it today.

In the oil industry of today, the obvious structures have been found and drilled. Other structural traps are becoming more and more difficult to find. Both major oil companies and independent operators are more and more often emphasizing the need to locate stratigraphic type oil fields. This is especially true in North Texas, where fluvial, deltaic and marine stratigraphic traps are abundant.

Sample logs frequently prove indispensable to geologists familiarizing themselves with the geology in an area, aiding a wellsite geologist while drilling a new well, or reviewing out-of-house prospects. Interpretative sample logs can frequently provide needed information which can help to clarify subtle or questionable electric log responses, which are all too common in the North Texas area.

To review the locations of the wells that our sample logs were taken from, please use the menu to the left. They are organized by Texas counties, with a few exceptions. If you wish to purchase a copy of a log, please contact us via phone or email at ntsls@sbcglobal.net.

*Log #04627 is a Composite Stratigraphic Section Log for North Central Texas. Wells from Archer, Baylor, and Young counties were used. It starts at 0' and goes to 6060'. The price of this log is $100.00.

**D.L. stands for driller log

***Some logs are not available as of yet. Please contact us if you wish to see a log that is unavailable, and we will try to get permission for you to view it. These are listed with a charge of $0.00.
